17th October: A story2019
Single-channel video, 41 min 27 sec
On October 13, 2019, hundreds of massive wildfires spread across Lebanon, engulfing its forests in flames.
The film records the hyperbroadcast events of the night of October 17, 2019 – the night the revolution is widely recognized to have begun.
Taking the form of a tourné-monté, the video explores how historical events are constructed and mediated. As the camera gets lost in the crowd, the dark image becomes such a brou-ha-ha that only the sounds of the people chanting slogans from the Egyptian, Tunisian, and Syrian revolutions are able to guide it.
